Works closely with vendors to ensure project success. Develops design and manufacturing techniques for various components.Involved from conceptual design through production and installation. Develops innovative and practical solutions to advanced technical engineering problems.Upcoming projects may include precision moving systems for large scale mechanical assemblies, structural support/operational monitoring of large EM coil systems and development and testing of high heat flux plasma facing components. Additionally, this position will conduct structural design, analysis, and supervision of fabrication and installation of system components, assemblies and sub-systems.

With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution to advanced technical engineering problem(s).

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to work within our Mechanical Systems group as part of the DIII-D National Fusion Facility in San Diego, CA.
